Paul Nathan Art - Digital Identity

Paul Nathan is a retired lawyer gone artist that needed help putting himself and his work into the digital world. With a primary focus of preserving “hand”, the feeling of analog work that computers can have a hard time capturing, we set out to digitize the eccentric joy of Paul’s photo-paintings.

This process started by taking his signature hand-cut letters and creating his very own font, Paul Handcut. I started with a bag of letters, identifying which ones were strong and readable but also fun and imperfect. After acquiring and vectorizing the letters, they were taken into FontForge to make a working font file.

The next step was creating the website. Armed with a vision, Paul created wire-frames and sent them my way alongside the images for each page to build a bare-bones version of the site.

This was followed by Paul sending me edits and we followed this back-and-forth to create the rest of the pages.
